Reading Today...

Post by Steve Russell »

Took a while to get going, no shots on target in the 1st half, but when we
did after the break, we battled for every ball & could well have gone on & won it.

The Fakers had a couple of corners near the end & we all know what that
could have meant!

Neil Critchley was the last one to complete his applause to the R's fans.
Great support from the Rangers fans packed behind the goal...

A lot of good things in that performance by the R’s today, to come back from
2-0 down at half time spoke volumes for the character they showed.

The goals conceded were extremely disappointing once again, I have to
question Seny Dieng once again and believe he could have done better.

Hendrick’s first was a good strike but it was some 30 yards out, Dieng could
see it all the way and it never left the ground. I know it’s probably debatable
whether he should have done better, but Reading’s second goal today was
definitely as a result of poor goalkeeping by Dieng.

He should have done a lot better with the original shot, before it landed
perfectly for Hendrick to tap in for his second.

Only other negatives for me today were the performances of Tim Iroegbunam
and Chris Willock, I thought they were both very poor and I think Neil Critchley
may have decisions to make there for the next game.

Listened to it on BBC Radio Berks. & the 2 biased commentators said it was very much
a game of 2 halves. A great come back, never write the Rs off at half time.

Good post from Chris Hewitt on our Facebook Group....

They claim to have worn hoops since 1066 and made a point of
calling us fake hoops. They then changed their nickname to the Rs
and their fans even sing: 'Come On You Rs.'

First time I went to Elm Park in 1989 their shirts were all blue which
makes them fibbers.

They are 152 years old, they’ve worn hoops for 69 of those years ,
less than 50%.

Reading did I believe wear hoops in the late 1940s 1950s era.
However when I went to Elm Park in 1966 to see R's play their colours
then were all sky blue.

I reckon it was only in the 1990s that they reverted back to a form of blue
and white hooped strip.

It would be interesting to get confirmation of the change back date from
somebody better informed than myself

Living in Reading as I do, I've won a few bets with
Phoneys fans as to who wore Hoops first.

I work for the local council, and there's an old Reading team photo, early
1900's & they wore stripes.

Watched the highlights yesterday & I was amazed at how
many empty seats there were - was it even half full??
Surely they could have let us have a few more seats -
THEN I WOULD HAVE BEEN ABLE TO GET IN !!!

....yes, I was tempted to do that, but the prospect of not
looking too pissed of if they scored, and not celebrating when we did, was
too much.
