'Olamide Shodipo’s strike puts the R’s on Top'
U23 Professional Development League
Team: Dieng, Kakay, Hall, Caulker, Fox, Tilt, Borysiuk, Goss,
Rowe, Shodipo, Oteh
Sub Not Used: Herdman
The eagerly awaited team sheets revealed an interesting starting line-up
that included; Steven Caulker, Grant Hall, and Olamide Shodipo who had
been off the radar for quite some time.
Aramide Oteh captained the R’s and the visitors arrived at Loftus Road
as the league leaders.
Rangers fashioned the first decent chance of the match when Daniel Rowe
took possession and then provided a good ball to Aramide Oteh, who shot
wide of the far post despite having time to do better.
Neither keeper had been troubled very much, but on 17 minutes Seny Dieng
was forced into making a good save, low to his left from Chris Camwell.
Mr Packman booked Camwell on 26 minutes following a heavy challenge on
Osman Kakay.
Rangers took the lead after 36 minutes when Oteh got into the box and Addai
palmed Kakay’s cross towards a lurking Shodipo, who finished from close range.
Half-time: 1-0.
The home side went three at the back as Paul Hall made two changes for
the second-half, with Giles Phillips replacing Grant Hall and Charlie Fox made
way for Zenon Stylianides.
Ten minutes into the half saw Shodipo’s cross set up Kakay, whose shot from inside
the box looked goal-bound, but Tom Davies managed to clear the ball off the line.
The Sky Blues came close to equalising around the hour mark following a cross from
the left flank. Steven Caulker went to intercept, the ball came off the post and
safely behind.
From the corner, an unmarked Tom Davies, well-placed six yards out, somehow
put the ball wide.
The floodlights were activated and on 65 minutes Danny Darbyshire was introduced at
he expense of Olamide Shodipo.
Later Dan Rowe limped off which meant that the R’s were down to ten men and
the away side were able to enjoy more possession.
In the latter stages, Coventry went close with a shot that curled just wide and
Giles Phillips blocked another one whilst the R’s went down to nine men.
Aramide Oteh was harshly booked and Chay Tilt was shown a yellow card for dissent.
Coventry’s captain Dion Kelly Evans and Tom Davies were also cautioned.
Rangers successfully saw out the six minutes of added time.
