'QPR defender Clarke-Salter facing long spell out
By David McIntyre 24/01/2025

Marti Cifuentes has spoken of his sadness at QPR defender Jake Clarke-Salter facing another lengthy
spell on the sidelines.

The centre-back, 27, has been plagued by injuries since being signed during the summer of 2022 after
leaving Chelsea.

He impressed towards the end of last season and the beginning of this term – and it was hoped that he
had finally put his problems behind him.

However, he suffered a hip injury in training on Monday and requires surgery.

Head coach Cifuentes said: “I’m very sad for him. He’s a player and a guy that I really rate – from a
professional and personal perspective.

“It’s a big setback. I’m very down because of the injury and very sad because it will be a long one.

“This season we had a lot of expectations about how much he could help us – last season and at the beginning
of this season he showed how good a player he is.”

It is currently unclear how long Clarke-Salter will be unavailable for.

“Probably after the surgery it’s going to be more clear how long he will be out,” Cifuentes said.

On a brighter note for Rangers, defenders Steve Cook and Liam Morrison have recovered from their respective
injuries and been passed fit for this weekend’s home match against Sheffield Wednesday.'
