Cardiff game

Post by ESSEXURs »

For those looking forward to attending this game I should warn you that Young Kerrins and EssexURs
will be attending the game.

Given the results we usually have the misfortune to influence I can only apologise in advance.

This is definitely a must win game and given our injuries to first choice players it is time the replacements
stepped up their performance levels as they might as well not be in the club.

Well for once you can’t blame the attendance of Kerrins and ESSEXURs for yesterday’s abysmal performance.
The first half was just about passable with at least a centre forward but where was the support for him (Lloyd)?

Effectively playing a youngster as one up at home was unacceptable especially as he wasn’t by all accounts fully fit.
MC desperation?!
When he departed a very large black hole in front of the opposition area appeared and our chances, apart from
several half hearted “shots”, drifted away big time.

Surely we can at least introduce some development squad players who can score or are we waiting to give them a cameo
when they are about to retire? Awful performance and once again the thin nature of the usual squad showed.

These substitute players have failed to deliver so why not promote some Development Squad players? What have we
got to lose?

Good to meet-up pre-match with Colin & Bernard in the Eagle in the Askew Road.

As for the game
Played at a very slow tempo at times & we lacked penetration, movement etc etc

In the 1st half Paul Smyth did really well getting past two defenders to
the bye-line but his cross went way beyond team mates.

Why did it take so long to bring back Liam Morrison???

There was a bit of an upturn in the last 20 mins or so, with a blocked shot & another
well saved, plus some dangerous corners etc etc

Why wasn't Alfie Lloyd taken off earlier as he was clearly struggling!!!

Pleased to see Emmerson Sutton in the squad but why didn't Marti bring him
on & being some spark/life to the team?????

Attendance: 17,066

Thanks to everyone that bought badges off me.

I just hope if Lloyd is not available MC doesn’t revert to no centre forward but for once takes a gamble at Oxford.

It must only frustrate Dev Squad players being selected then not at least given half an hour game time.
What do they think when senior players are playing so poorly.

We always had a tradition of young players being blooded early in their careers and what have we got to lose.
The likes of Goddard, Allen and Gallen didn’t suffer from being played and at a time when they probably were not
protected by referees as much as now.

I thought our performance v Cardiff was much better than the Stoke game.
It was a fairly-balanced game, unlike Stoke.
But obviously we are still struggling for goals, that is the big problem.

It was good to meet up with Colin W Steve R and Keith Rowley at the game.
Also a very pleasant pre match session in the Eagle Pub in Askew Rd.

We all know that up front we are total Powder Puffs but to serve up that awful Standard of football
as well against rubbish opposition like Cardiff City was the absolute pits

Post match our manager was quoted as saying that the team should be credited for their effort.
All I can say is that he is scraping the bottom of the barrel for something positive to say.

There was some degree of effort (Lloyd worked hard) but there was no skill no quality football no creativity
and most certainly no expertise up front.
