First Pro Deal for Noah McCann....

Post by Steve Russell »

Good luck to him. News from the Club...

'NOAH McCann has signed his first professional contract with QPR.

The 19-year-old defender, who has been with the club since the age of eight, is looking to kick on
after losing a year of his development to an ACL injury.

“This is huge,” said a delighted McCann. “When I was young, I spent so much time here - Tuesdays, Thursdays,
Saturdays, Sundays - for ten years, so it's huge.”

McCann – who describes himself as “a ball-playing centre-half who likes the physical side of defending” – admits
one of his earliest memories from his ten-plus years with QPR to date involved him being a ball-boy for a first-team
fixture.

“Do you remember (Tjaronn) Chery?” he asked with a smile. “He scored a free-kick, top corner, and I was sat on
the side when it happened! I remember it and always talk about it!”

McCann has represented Scotland at youth level, and made his U19s debut in March 2023. He was set for his second
appearance when his plans were curtailed by the injury which ruled him out for a year, missing the 2023/24 campaign.

“For me, that was devastating,” he admits. “It felt like the end of the world!

“But everyone says I responded so positively to it. I just thought I've got a period now where I've got to develop off
the pitch - in the gym, doing other bits so that when I'm back, I’m prepared for 21s football because I missed the last
year of under 18s football.”

McCann’s positive mindset helped him make a successful return this season, making 13 appearances for the Development
Squad, which included six outings in the club’s victorious Premier League Cup run. He also made his debut for Scotland
U20s last month in their friendly against Slovakia.

“The season has been so good - and the ending was the best!” he said. “Now my aim is to play men's football.

“I want to have a strong pre-season, see where I'm at come the end of pre-season and then be playing men's first-team
football.”

CEO Christian Nourry said: "Noah has been desperately unfortunate with the injury setbacks that he has suffered in the last
few seasons. We are, however, convinced that each challenge in this regard has been met with a level of resilience and
professionalism that are a credit to Noah as a person.

“As a tidy left-footed centre-back, it is the technical team’s opinion that he deserves further opportunities to develop and
hopefully shine.”
