Confirmation that Alex Wilkie has Signed a Pro Deal....

Post by Steve Russell »

As expected. Developing well, good luck to him.
From the Club....

'Centre-half Alex Wilkie has signed professional terms with QPR following a successful trial with our
Development Squad.

The 19-year-old made a number of trialist appearances for Paul Furlong's Dev Squad last season, which
culminated in the team's Premier League Cup final success over Brentford in May.

Wilkie - who netted our third and final goal in that 3-1 final win - said: "It was amazing. The atmosphere
was unbelievable and it was just the perfect end to the season for us.

"It feels really good to finally get the contract signed now - I can't wait to get started.

"Since I've come here, I feel like I've done quite well. I've felt really welcome and the lads and the coaches
have helped me a lot, too.

"Now I've got to keep working hard - hitting pre-season well and then going from there."

Alex only entered the academy system as an under-16, joining non-league Eastleigh. The defender subsequently
signed a two-year scholarship with Cheltenham Town before more recently returning to Eastleigh.

Last season, Wilkie also spent time on loan at Winchester City and believes his experiences will help him as he
looks to progress his career.

"Playing men's football quite young has definitely given me something extra," he added, "it's shown me another
side of football and I feel like that's been really good for me.

"Now, I want to come in, try to improve every day and see what happens. You can see the ambitions for this club,
pushing younger players up higher.

"It's obviously such a boost when you're seeing team-mates of yours going up and training with the first team.
It gives you the motivation to come in and try to do the same."

QPR CEO Christian Nourry added: "The club's altered approach towards being more aggressive in the non-league
market continues today with the formal arrival of Alex.

“Many fans were able to see his battling qualities in full force in the Premier League Cup final versus Brentford
at MATRADE Loftus Road, where he also got on the scoresheet.

Size, leadership qualities and body positioning nous were all characteristics that attracted our recruitment team
to the player.

We are all looking forward to working with Alex to help him develop further."
