It did seen very unlikely for a while but great news :D

From the Club..
'JIMMY Dunne has extended his stay with QPR after signing a new deal with the club on Tuesday afternoon.

The 27-year-old defender joined four years ago from Burnley. His passion and commitment in the blue and white
hoops have made him a firm favourite with R’s fans during that time, culminating in him being named MyGuava
Supporters' Player of the Year for the 2024/25 campaign.

Dunne – who also scooped the Ray Jones Players’ Player of the Year and Achilleus Security Junior Hoops Player of the Year
awards last season – is thrilled to be continuing his journey in west London.

“I'm delighted,” Jimmy told www.qpr.co.uk. “This feels like home. It's my club, so I'm really happy to still be here.

“I’ve got an emotional attachment to this club, which is obviously super rare in football these days. My butcher's a QPR fan,
my postman's a QPR fan. I see them all the time, so I feel the emotion of the people when I'm around Chiswick or wherever
I see them.

“I think that's another reason why I've grown so attached and I think I really care. So much has changed since I've been here.
So many managers, so many players, but I've seen how much the fans have cared about us at our lowest points.”

With Dunne out of contract this summer, there has been much speculation surrounding his future since the January transfer
window.

“It is difficult to play football alongside speculation like that,” Jimmy said. “You just want to focus on football alone.

“But I think, ultimately, footballers need to do what's best for their career and their development.
I'm well into my 20s now. I'm an experienced player at the club, but development and the right direction is still
important to me. Ultimately, I continue to feel like QPR is the best place for me.

“I think it was key to take time away and think about it. And I did that. I tried to think about all the aspects that come into
where a footballer should be. I want to continue to grow in confidence, continue to improve my leadership skills, to be
happy – not underestimating that I feel loved here and I love the people here.

“All those things added up ultimately to the decision that I want to continue to play my football here.”

Jimmy has made 163 appearances for Rangers to date, scoring 11 goals. While he already has plenty of special memories
in QPR colours, he is keen to create more.

“I've had some amazing memories and moments at Loftus Road that I've grown attached to,” Dunne added. “It's something
that that you can't really describe.

“I just want to continue to enjoy the journey. I want to continue investing time and effort into that and see where I can get to.

“When I came in four seasons ago, I think in my first interview, I said I expect to get promoted at a club like QPR because it's a
massive club and that's what it deserves. Even though it's been difficult, it remains my primary ambition.”

CEO Christian Nourry said: “Jimmy Dunne will put every ounce of his blood, sweat and tears on the line for this football club.

“He had the pick of the Championship clubs in this window but ultimately he has chosen to stay here, home, because of what we
are all building together. The journey continues.”

Not so sure the emotional attachment he had for the club, would have been there if Chris Wilder had not
lost his job at Sheffield United.

Wilder made no secret of his desire to recruit Jimmy Dunne for the Blades, maybe Dunne could have been the
difference in getting Sheffield United over the line for promotion. Who knows ?

Let’s not forget towards the end of the last transfer window when Sheffield United were linked very strongly with
Dunne, he then missed a game for no apparent reason and there was a feeling amongst supporters he was offski.

Fortunately, the club kept him until the end of the season, which enabled us to retain our Championship status.

Whilst I am happy he has extended his contract with the club, this “emotional attachment” Dunne refers to is nonsense.

No such thing as “emotional attachment” in modern day football, lucrative contracts are the only thing that motivates
professional footballers today.
