Wigan Today.....

Met up with Kerrins & ESSEXURs in the Eagle, Askew Rd pre-match...

With Wigan's away form noted,I expected a tough encounter & particularly
in the 2nd half, we needed to battle for the points.

On the back of the Mick Beale news the other day & being top of the league there
was a fantastic atmosphere with, at times, 3 sides of the ground
(maybe also the Lower School End?), singing in unison.

Sam Field's opening goal & Leon Balogun's 2nd, both coming via Stefan's corners,
meant that we have had so far, 11 different goalscorers.

There were also periods of fantastic quick, close range interplay between various
R's players. Breathtaking.....

The champagne moment for me came in the 2nd half when Ilias, close to the
bye-line at the Loft End, twisted past defenders back & forth, then he completely
spun round, before knocking the ball across the 6-yard box & just beyond the
outstretched reach of two team-mates. Absolutely wonderful!

Attendance: 16,353

We're Queen's Park Rangers & We're (Still) Top of the League :D

Attended the match with the boy Kerrins having met Steve earlier in the Eagle as he said.

Loftus Rd back to the days of old with the crowd reacting to Beale staying and one of the
best inter-passing teams I have seen at the Rs in my 65 years of watching them.

I texted at half time to Steve it was breathtaking and he said he had said the same.
Most of it was immediately in front of W block and I still can’t believe that three Rs players
surrounded by at least five Wigan players played out of a five yard circle with amazing
precision and speed.

Armstrong is improving each game and will learn what to do and not do. It is obvious that
he and others are being really well coached now and Dykes especially is improving his
all-round game. We certainly missed Armstrong’s threat when he was subbed.

It’s a sign of a good team that we had a relatively poor second half due to injuries
(apart from the magic from Ilias) and other Rs teams would have succumbed to a draw at best.

There is a great team spirit which should be credited to our Manager and coaching staff.
Looking at their faces I can’t see any of the loan players wanting to go back to their clubs
at the end of this season!
And…we still have Chris W to come back.

It was nice to meet up with Steve R and Colin W at the match on Saturday.

The standard of our football in the first half was absolutely superb. We could easily have been 4 goals up.

In the 2nd half early injuries in particular to Armstrong completely spoilt the format and in the end
we had to hang on for the 2-1 win.

However amid the end game tension the team (and surprisingly
enough myself ;)) kept calm and carried on and the Egg Chasing Pie Munchers were defeated

Steveqpr881. I told you those four leaf clovers would work :) Especially in that second half incident
when Wigan hit the post and it looked like the ball might have crossed the line. Phew!

In that case, we need you both at every game from now on - with your lucky clovers. ;)
