On this day in history

Post by steveqpr881 »

25th October, 1993 I first met Rodney Marsh.
It was when he & George Best were doing their roadshow together,
called "A Sporting Night To Remember." Down in Bournemouth, when I still lived there.

Part 2:
Both Rodney & George showed clips of their games (club & country), told stories
& answered questions from the audience.
I asked Rodney, if (should the rumour going around that the time be true) our manager at that time -
Gerry Francis - was offered the England job, would he be interested in taking over as Rs manager?
He said no, then George said that Gerry wouldn't be getting the England job, he'd agreed to go to
Liverpool. They'd then be called Gerry & the Pacemakers.
Everyone had a good laugh at my expense!

Part 3:
But I got my revenge on Best, after the show.
You could queue up to meet the 2 of them, have a phot taken & signed;
all for a fiver, bargain!
While I was waiting for the Polaroid to dry (so they could sign the plain strip at the bottom),
I said, "Who'd have thought, 20 years ago, I'd be stood here with the World's Greatest Footballer."
Bestie smiled, obviously thought I meant him.
But I said, "No, you were the best, George - but Rod is God."
Made Rodney chuckle.
