Expectations

Being old enough to have experienced several seasons in the old third division
the expectations horizon seemed a million miles away.

We reached the first division after some great work by the junior team trainers
and some excellent signings and it laid the foundations for one of our greatest
managers to knit it all together.

Unfortunately then came along the Premiership which along with our
success of the late 60’s created even more expectations.

TV contracts bloated the prize money for getting back into the top league
and fortunately with no FFP we were able to get into the top tier a couple
more times despite our low gate income assisted also by parachute payments
when we did drop out.

These parachute payments created an unfair situation for the majority of
Championship clubs and the expectations horizon has started to get further and
further away.

Should we now accept that unless we get that blend of young and experienced
players as under Stock and Warnock and we create another successful team
we should accept we can become a good mid table Championship team?

At least we would have the prospect of winning half our games a season and
we could once again start producing home grown players without unnecessary
expectations being on the club’s back.

Great post.

We had a Chief Scout at QPR many years ago the late Derek Healy, this man
brought so many players to the QPR youth system during his time and so many
of them made the QPR first team.

Players such as Tony Hazell, Ron Hunt, Alan Spratley,
Ian and Roger Morgan, Ian Gillard, Martyn Busby, Gerry Francis, Ron Abbott,
John Beck, Alan Mayes, Tony Tagg, John Delve, Dave Clement, Mick Leach,
Frank Sibley, Ian Evans and others were brought to QPR by Derek Healy.

He did miss out on Peter Osgood allegedly, but the players he did bring to QPR
spoke volumes for his ability to recruit young players.

Fast forward to today and we have a DOF who in 8 years has not, unearthed
or discovered any outstanding young players showing great potential for
the benefit of QPR.

We have reached the end of the road with the board, CEO and DOF, they
have failed in every aspect of running QPR.

We are haemorrhaging money year after year, youth system is not fit for purpose and
yet the club keep preaching about developing our own players.

Owning our own training ground is a massive step in the right direction, next step

is to revamp the whole of our scouting networks and underage teams.
