Report from the Club....

'CARDIFF City Under-21s proved too strong for QPR Development Squad at the Cardiff International Sports Stadium,
winning 2-1 on Monday afternoon.

Paul Furlong’s side battled hard to get on level terms with the Welsh outfit after Isaiah Balogun’s headed goal brought
the score back to 2-1, however our young R’s fell just short of taking any points back to the capital with them.

A brace from Cian Ashford secured all three points for Cardiff in Professional Development League Two.

The game got off to a quiet start in terms of clear-cut chances, with both teams taking a patient approach and showing
discipline in their respective setups.

Michael Reindorf – who has made two appearances for the Bluebirds’ first team this year – came closest to opening the
scoring in the eighth minute after being slotted in behind by Ronan Kpakio on the counter attack, but he was denied at
close range by Matteo Salamon.

With defences on top, it took until the 30th minute for either of the sides to have another notable shot at
goal. It was Reindorf for Cardiff, denied again by Salamon in the Rangers net.

However, a minute later, Cody Twose was brought down in the box and a penalty was awarded to the home side.
Ashford converted for the hosts, dispatching his spot kick to Salamon’s right in the 32nd minute.

Emmerson Sutton had the best chance to draw R’s level on the stroke of half-time, dancing his way through midfield
and into the box, but his shot was blocked by one of the three defenders trying to stop him.

The Bluebirds started the second period strongly, and Salamon was called into action in the 46th and 48th minutes
to twice deny Reindorf again.

With 57 minutes on the clock, Ashford doubled Cardiff’s lead, running through the middle of the park and hitting
a great strike into the top left corner.

Twenty minutes later, substitute Balogun confidently headed home Jake Coomes' looping cross to give Rangers hope
of an equaliser with 13 minutes to play.

Coomes was QPR’s liveliest player of the afternoon and he came close to scoring in the 87th minute, however his volley
was slashed wide of the post.

Cardiff defended well to protect their advantage in the closing stages, proving to be a difficult side to beat.

For Furlong R's, attentions now turn to the Premier League Cup at the SkyEx Community Stadium on Thursday evening,
as our Development Squad take on Blackburn Rovers U21s.

QPR: Salamon, Santos (Balogun 62), Leahy, Manufor, McCann (McDowell 62), Neill, Petrie (Neziri 64), Tarbotton,
Ashamu (Vaughan 70), Sutton, Coomes.'
