From the Club...
RONNIE Edwards has joined QPR on loan from Southampton.
The 21-year-old right-sided centre-back will stay with the R’s for the remainder of
the 2024/25 season.
Edwards came through the ranks at Barnet before spending four years with Peterborough United prior to a
summer move to the Premier League with the Saints – and now he is looking forward to his time in West London.
“There is so much potential, obviously it is a massive club,” he said. “As soon as I heard, I was all over it.
“You can obviously wait until deadline day but as soon as I heard of this, I thought why not get started
straight away?”
Edwards also revealed he was given words of encouragement by a motivated dad!
“A lot of his side of the family support QPR, he was buzzing!” explained the defender.
“He said about bringing back old times for his generation of the family. I’ll be getting them tickets for
every game!”
Aside from keeping his dad happy, Edwards explained it was a desire to play football that was really key.
Having featured consistently during his time at London Road, he has found game time limited so far at St Mary’s.
“I was used to playing regularly in the past and I have missed that,” he admitted. “Hopefully I can get that here.”
Despite Steve Cook and Liam Morrison currently being sidelined through injury, Edwards knows he will have to
compete for a centre-back spot and that’s something he is excited to do.
“Competition is great,” he said. “If there wasn’t competition football would be easy and you would play all the time!
I just can’t wait to get started and hopefully get some minutes.”
Edwards, who has represented England at Under-19 and Under 20-level, made his EFL debut at the age of 17.
In his second season at Peterborough – during their 2021/22 campaign in the Championship – he made 34 league
appearances for the club.
His impact, while still only 18, saw him named their Player of the Season as well as the Supporters’ Player of the
Season and Young Player of the Season – and he knows what to expect from the Championship.
“I know about the division,” he said. “It’s exciting, it is another challenge, and I am ready to get going.”
While not eligible for this afternoon's fixture against Watford, Edwards is fit and available for selection for our home
game with Luton on Monday 6th January.
CEO Christian Nourry said: "I am delighted to welcome Ronnie to the football club until the end of the season.
We are excited about his ball-playing qualities and overall defensive work.
"I want to thank Southampton for placing their trust in us at a time when there were a number of suitors for the
player.
"Let me also take this opportunty to wish all R's fans the best health, happiness and success for 2025."
